Spring Maintenance Tips for Your Shuswap Home

Spring is just around the corner! I sure can feel it warming up, especially here in Salmon Arm, B.C. The colder months during the winter can take a toll around the house, in particular the exterior from snow and ice.

I’m sure you’ve been thinking of all the things you need to do around the house as you enjoy the warmer weather. You will want to deal with some items fairly quickly, so they don’t turn into bigger and more costly problems down the road. This goes whether you are staying where you are or thinking of selling your home. Keeping it clean and safe to live in is essential!

Not sure where to begin? I’ve got a handy checklist to help get you started, for the Exterior and Interior.

EXTERIOR:

FOUNDATION - Check around your home's foundation for cracks or other wear and tear.

SIDING - Look at the bricks and siding on your home to see if you need repairs or new paint - this is a great opportunity to pressure wash your siding too.

ROOF - Inspect your roof, looking for cracked or missing shingles or other signs of damage or leaks.

HVAC - Clean the outdoor unit of your HVAC system and inspect it for any signs of damage.

ADDITIONAL - Check any external fixtures, outdoor electrical outlets, hose faucets, and other objects on or around the outside of your home for signs of damage.

INTERIOR:

CLEAN WINDOWS AND SCREENS - Inside and out - lot’s of dirt can build up over the winter. A good clean will get the natural light flowing in again.

REPLACE HVAC FILTERS - Recommended every 3 months. It is particularly important if you have pets or people with allergies in the house to keep clean air flowing.

SERVICE AIR CONDITIONER - The warm weather is coming and you will want to be ready! Connect with your trusted local professional.

SEAL UP WINDOWS AND DOORS - Keep the pests out, as well as cold drafts that may make your house less energy efficient.

DECLUTTER - Out with the old! Get rid of items that are old, not working or that you no longer use. Donate what you can!
